Sally Duke was born to work with animals. Sally was raised in a Navy family, always on the move. The neighborhood dogs became her best friends everywhere they went. At one point you could see her riding her bike down the street with a chicken on her shoulder, with all of the neighborhood dogs in tow. By the fifth grade she was training dogs in the neighborhood.

She was able to read and understand the animals from the beginning.

Her first job was at a very large dog/cat kennel in the D. C. area at age 16. She began to break the mold by training the owners and the dogs, with positive reinforcement and no treats. Soon she was the one to call for the "untrainable dogs", (really the humans!)

Sally went from training and problem solving with dogs to her dream job. When she became a zoo keeper for the Indianapolis Zoo. Here she cared for and began training exotic animals. Sally began working with exotic animals in daily educational shows and worked on the zoo mobile, taking animals to schools. Sally worked with an array of animals from flighted birds of prey,raccoons, yaks, pigs, camels, reindeer and ever trained chickens!

Sally then went to the largest Children's Museum in the world where she was the Animal Care Manager. In her care were over 60 animals. She began writing and performing educational animal shows for all ages.

Safari Sally was born, when the museum decided to do away with the animals. Sally became the new home to many of these animals and has been performing animal programs ever since as Safari Sally.

• Of the menagerie of over 40 animals residing with Sally and her family. Only a few are animals that were not rescue.
• This includes a blind horse, 20 year old alpaca, many rescue reptiles, and of course dogs!
